We Have Sat Where You Are Sitting

Blue Oak Business Advisors was not built in a boardroom. It was not the result of a business plan, a pitch deck or a carefully mapped growth strategy. It came about the way the best things usually do — three people with complementary expertise, a shared frustration, and a conversation that refused to end.

Marcus, Sarah and Daniel were each working independently as consultants when their paths first crossed — brought together by overlapping client work that spanned both online businesses and bricks and mortar operations. What struck all three almost immediately was not how different their backgrounds were, but how consistently they were encountering the same problem: talented, hardworking business owners making avoidable mistakes because they did not have access to the right advice at the right time.

Blue Oak was their answer to that problem.

The Team

Marcus Webb — Operations & Strategy

Marcus spent two decades as an operations director inside some of the UK’s most demanding retail environments before stepping out of the corporate world and into independent consultancy. That time on the inside gave him something no MBA programme can replicate — a forensic understanding of how businesses actually function when the pressure is on, and an instinct for finding the inefficiencies that quietly drain performance without ever appearing on a dashboard.

Now 52 and with hundreds of SME engagements behind him, Marcus has worked with independent high street retailers, multi-site hospitality businesses, warehouse and logistics operations, and e-commerce brands at every stage of growth. He is direct, experienced and has very little patience for problems that have straightforward solutions nobody has bothered to implement.

If your business has a leak, Marcus will find it.

Sarah Calloway — Financial Strategy & Growth

Sarah began her career in investment banking, where she developed the kind of financial rigour that most small business owners never get anywhere near. But it was when she moved into SME advisory work — initially almost by accident — that she found her calling.

What she discovered was a world full of ambitious, capable business owners making genuinely expensive decisions on the basis of incomplete information, gut instinct and optimistic spreadsheets. Sarah became the person who changed that. Over the past fifteen years she has guided more than two hundred business owners through funding rounds, restructuring processes, exit planning and long-term growth strategy — bringing institutional-grade financial thinking to businesses that could never previously have accessed it.

At 44 she is the sharpest financial mind Blue Oak has to offer, and almost certainly the calmest person you will ever have a difficult conversation with.

Daniel Reeves — Business Growth & Opportunity

Daniel came to the UK from Chicago, where he had spent fifteen years in the engine room of the American startup and scale-up scene — working across tech, retail and hospitality businesses at the growth stage where the decisions made tend to define everything that follows.

He brings a transatlantic perspective that regularly reframes the way UK business owners see their own opportunities — a habit of looking at a struggling or stalled business and identifying not just what needs fixing, but what is being missed entirely. Where others see problems, Daniel has an uncommon talent for finding the opportunity hiding inside them.

Now 48 and firmly embedded in the London business community, Daniel combines American results-first energy with a genuine understanding of the UK market built over years of hands-on advisory work with British SMEs across both digital and physical operations.

Why Blue Oak

The name was not chosen lightly. An oak grows slowly, puts down deep roots and outlasts almost everything around it. Blue has represented trust, clarity and professionalism across cultures and industries for as long as anyone can remember. Together they say exactly what we want to say to every business owner we work with — we are here for the long term, we will give you a clear view of where you stand, and we are built to help you last.

Between the three of us we bring experience across operations, financial strategy and growth consultancy, across online and physical businesses, across the UK and North American markets, and across virtually every challenge a growing SME is likely to face.

We have sat where you are sitting. We know what it feels like to carry a business. And we know what it takes to move one forward.
